Group

The group interests relate to the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology, particularly the areas of molecular electronics, molecular magnetism and biology. We design molecular systems capable of providing inputs at the nano-scale and focus our efforts in the control and organization of such species on different surfaces/nanodevices. The main areas of expertise are

Congratulations Dr. Sandra Giraldo, another Doctor in the group and a new ICMAB Graduate

Today our PhD student Sandra Giraldo defended her PhD thesis titled “Electroactive self-assembled monolayers: p-donor/p-acceptor interactions to induce transport along of the surface” in an online session. Well done! =) Abstract: Motor proteins with internal mechanical movement and cargo transport have been used as inspiration for the creation of new stimuli-responsive systems for molecular transport. Following up this motivation, new electroactive monolayers formed with p-acceptor bipyridinium salts has been explored. These systems are able to interact supramolecularly with p-donor cargoes which can be fluorescent molecules or micro- and nanoparticles. The p-donor/p-acceptor interaction is broken once the electroactive molecule is reduced by applying a redox stimulus, inducing the cargo decomplexation. The response of these monolayers to redox stimuli and the possibility of controlling the decomplexation of the cargo open the door to their use as electrochemical molecular switches for the transport of cargoes along of the electroactive surfaces.

The PhD researcher Sandra Giraldo from the Supramolecular systems in Nanomedicine Group (UB) and FunNanoSurf Group (ICMAB-CSIC), will defend her PhD thesis on Friday, 26 February 2021, at 11 am in an online session. The PhD Thesis Defense will be held by videoconference from the ICMAB meeting room.
