On Saturday 29 September, the dramatised reading “Madame Châtelet and her Instagram followers”, which features the life and discoveries of several women scientists throughout history, was represented in the Library “Biblioteca Sagrada Família”, Barcelona, at 1 pm, in the framework of the activities of the European Researchers’ Night (Nit Europea de la Recerca), organised in Catalonia.

Continuing the Strategic Vision for the Severo Ochoa programme FUNMAT (“Smart FUNctional MATerials for social grand challenges”), the ICMAB opened the call for the third edition of the Frontier Interdisciplinary Projects (FIP) earlier this year 2018. Out of all the proposals submitted, 9 projects in different fields have been granted.

The Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC) hosted the XXX IEC Chemistry Debate “Connect the Materials Science with the young students”. Susagna Ricart and Arántzazu González took part in the event, which was held from 4 to 7 pm at the amazing “Sala Prat de la Riba”.

The “Societat Catalana de Química” (SCQ-IEC) organizes every year the contest on the best research chemistry projects for secondary school students (Premis als Treballs de Recerca de Batxillerat dins l’Àmbit de la Química). The award for the finalist students is a two-week scientific internship in a Catalan research center or university during July 2018.
The awards ceremony took place on May 9, 2018, at the IEC, and was introduced by a debate on “Connecting materials science to the young students and adults” by our researchers Susagna Ricart and Arántzazu González, and followed by the awards delivery and the talks of the winners.

On Friday, 16 March 2018, the secondary school INS Mercè Rodoreda (Hospitalet de Llobregat) celebrated their “IV Scientific Day” (IV Jornada Científica) with scientific activities for their students, from 1st ESO to 2nd BTX. Núria Aliaga, ICREA Research Professor at ICMAB, was one of the invited speakers. She had the big challenge of talking about science to “Arts and Humanities” 3rd and 4th ESO students.
