The CSIC launches the JAE Intro ICMAB 2020 call “Introduction to Research Fellowships for University Students”. This call is open to University students who are willing to begin working in the field of research in Materials Science, Phyiscs, Chemistry, Biology, Biomedicine and related areas in an attractive environment in a Severo Ochoa Excellence Center. The fellowships are for 5 consecutive months during the academic year 2020-2021. The application will be open from 1 September to 20 September 2020. 

Who can apply?

The call is for university students with an excellent academic record. Applicants should have an average grade equal or higher than 7.5/10. The fellowships are for university students who will start studying an Official University Master during 2020-2021 in the fields of Materials Science and Technology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biomedicine.

Last Friday (10/07/2020), our PhD student Sandra Giraldo Clemente attended on a virtual NanoBio&Med2020 Conference.  Her speech was entitled Neurotransmitter’s encapsulation on Bipyridinium-functionalized polysilicon microparticles by supramolecular interactions.

At the NanoBio&Med2020, it have been presented the most recent international developments in the field of Nanobiotechnology and Nanomedicine in order to provide a platform for multidisciplinary communication, new cooperations and projects to participants from both science and industry.

FunNanoSurf is a multidisciplinary group at the ICMAB (Institute of Material Science of Barcelona, Bellaterra, Spain) interested in the integration of molecules as active elements in nano-/micro-devices with the goal of developing functional molecular-based platforms for electronic and/or sensing applications.

Job Description
We are looking to recruit a postdoctoral fellow to create hybrid graphene-based three-terminal nanodevices. The postdoctoral fellow will oversee the design, fabrication and characterization of graphene-based electrodes separated by a nano-gap (<2 nm) using controlled electroburning, as well as the analysis and treatment of the experimental data. Electronic transport measurements of three-terminal nanodevices will be performed in a probe station under various environmental conditions to assess their efficiency and robustness as electronic sensors.

The devices will be prepared using molecular-based materials as active components, an area in which the group has extensive experience. A key aspect of the project is the functionalization of graphene electrodes via e.g. covalent and supramolecular attachment. We thus seek a candidate with excellent nanofabrication skills, who ideally has a background in graphene nanotechnologies.

FunNanoSurf is a multidisciplinary group interested in the integration of molecules as active elements in nano-/micro-devices of different nature with the goal of developing responsive molecular-based platforms useful for electronic and/or sensor purposes. 

Job Description 

We are looking to recruit a postdoctoral fellow to create highly-conjugated molecular-based materials to accommodate them in nano-devices. The postdoctoral fellow must have an extensive knowledge on characterization in solution, in the solid state and on surfaces. The project will require two phases, a first one related to the synthesis of the systems and a second one toward the deposition of the materials on different substrates. The successful candidate should have experience in organic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry and surface chemistry. Expertise in soft-deposition techniques and analysis of SAMs will be highly regarded.
